There is no need to assume you must buy a whole pair. For a Switch Lite, the controls are built into the console, so the options are different.

Screen, battery and charging-port repairs normally do not require erasing storage, but data cannot be guaranteed on a faulty console. Switch saves are stored in system memory, not on the microSD card. Cloud backup depends on the game, subscription and whether a backup completed.
